Our measures for climate and environmental protection
Everything we do leaves traces - our means of transport, our way of work, as well as the things we buy or eat. Our actions almost always influence our CO2 footprint. Regardless, there are a number of ways to help offset CO2. These include, e.g. reforestation, the use of renewable energy, energy saving-measures or more efficient recycling methods. Find out here what we at Gabor are doing to achieve this.
Renewable energies for our shoes
Creating renewable energy is active climate protection. At our Silveiros site in Portugal, we continuously invest in the expansion of photovoltaic systems. Currently, 21 per cent of our own electricity requirements are produced as solar power. This means that the plant already produces 700,000 pairs of shoes using climate-friendly energy. At the end of 2020, additional solar collectors are to generate an additional 1000 megawatt hours of electricity, which is enough energy for manufacturing 1.4 million pairs of shoes.
A new mixed forest for climate protection
In cooperation with the non-profit association, PRIMAKLIMA e.V., we started a large reforestation campaign in 2019. With our help, a new mixed forest with 2,000 seedlings was created in Langburkersdorf in Saxony. They are looked after for at least five years as part of the nursery process and are then protected by the Forest Protection Act. This removes CO2 from the atmosphere permanently. In the course of the next 50 years, this forest will store around 200 tonnes of CO2. In future, it will also provide an important contribution to flood protection in the region.
509 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions saved in 2019
Climate-neutral delivery in Austria
Short transport routes, modern-day logistics, climate-neutral deliveries, etc. All of the above also contribute to climate protection. In so doing, in 2019, we were able to avoid 509 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions.
Short Transport Routes
Due to the predominant production in our own European plants, we keep transport distances as short as possible and comply with the strict EU guidelines related to environmental protection.
Modern Logistics
We also endeavour to be sustainable when it comes to logistics. This means that all our deliveries by Austrian Post are completely climate-neutral. We achieve this through savings, the use of alternative forms of energy and, whenever it is not possible to avoid emissions, by supporting certified climate protection projects, so as to offset them. Our modern vehicle fleet is regularly maintained and renewed to reduce emissions to the greatest degree possible.
Partner Operations
We also expect our partner companies and suppliers to demonstrate a clear commitment and serious efforts to protect the environment and work hard to bring about improvements. These are components of the Code of Conduct which we enter into with our suppliers on a mandatory basis. Find out more about it here. !!!!!LINK!!!!
